Intermittent Disc Feller Head – Quadco 2400

Versatility and safety for complex logging operations
The Quadco 2400 is an intermittent disc feller head designed to deliver maximum versatility and safety in complex forest operations. With a 610 mm (24″) cutting capacity and a robust structure suitable for 22+ ton carriers, this head stands out for its ability to “shovel” wood and perform topping on large trees. It is the top choice for Right-of-Way (ROW) cleaning and handling windblown timber thanks to its exceptional holding and cutting control.

Large description

Engineering & Design:
Total Control & Safety The Quadco 2400 is built with durability and operational safety in mind. Its intermittent disc design enables functions that other heads cannot perform, such as shovel logging or manipulating large limbs individually. A key engineering highlight is the optional safety gripper arms—a critical feature for projects involving power lines, ensuring the tree is held firmly throughout the process. Available with 40° or high-torque 360° rotation to suit terrain maneuverability needs.

Cutting Power & Performance
This head doesn’t just fell; it dominates the tree. Equipped with a 12-tooth disc and a 41 mm kerf, it delivers a clean, powerful cut driven by two F12-30 motors. Its nominal saw speed reaches 760 rpm, ensuring efficiency in every cycle. The lifting capacity and hydraulic design are optimized to work with pressures of 248-276 bar, providing the necessary force to handle hardwoods typical of northern forestry.

Versatility in the Forest:
“Hold and Cut” Unlike standard processors, the 2400 shines in controlled felling. Its “hold and cut” system makes it ideal for clearing blowdown areas (windthrow) and maintaining utility lines. Its operating weight, ranging between 2,812 kg and 2,994 kg (depending on rotation), gives it the necessary stability to handle full stems without compromising the base machine’s balance.

Fleet Compatibility

This head is designed for large excavators and fellers. It is essential to ensure the carrier meets the hydraulic requirements to maximize the intermittent disc’s performance.

  • Excavators / Base Machines: 22-ton class or higher (22 ton & plus).
  • Working Pressure: 248-276 bar (3,600-4,000 psi).
  • Saw Circuit Flow: 284 lpm (75 gpm).
  • Valves: Requires low-flow valves for arms and rotator.

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) – Quadco 2400

1. What type of jobs is the Quadco 2400 ideal for? It is excellent for Right-of-Way cleaning (power lines, roads) and managing windthrow/blowdown areas, thanks to its ability to hold the tree before and after the cut.

2. Can it work safely near power lines?
Yes, it features optional locking gripper arms designed specifically to increase safety in projects involving electrical cables.

3. What does “intermittent” model mean?
It means the disc does not spin constantly. This allows the head to be used for other functions like shovel logging, manipulating large branches, or topping trees without the risk of accidental cuts.

4. What machine do I need to mount this head?
You need an excavator or forestry machine with an operating weight of at least 22 tons to safely handle the head’s weight and inertia.

5. What maintenance do the teeth require?
The disc features 12 rotatable teeth. Being a robust disc system, maintenance is lower compared to chain systems when working in dirty or abrasive wood conditions.
