Harvester – NEUSON FOREST 204 HVT

The quintessential all-rounder in the 20-tonne class
The Neuson Forest 204HVT is the ultimate “all-terrain” harvester in the 20-tonne category. Designed as a universal machine, it handles everything from late thinning to final felling with ease. Its leveling system (Tilt), powerful 219 hp engine, and “Short Tail” design make it the most versatile option for contractors who need a single machine for multiple forest types.

Large description

Total Versatility: The Universal Machine. The 204HVT has been developed to bridge the gap between pure thinning and final felling. With a weight of 20.7 tonnes, it is light and compact enough (with a 2.5 m width option) to maneuver in thinning operations without causing excessive damage, yet it possesses the ruggedness and power to fell and process mature trees. Its reduced tail swing radius (Short Tail) allows for operation in confined spaces without worrying about the rear of the machine.

Slope Engineering and Stability:
Like its larger siblings, it features Neuson’s proven leveling system, capable of compensating 25° forward and +/- 15° laterally. This, combined with a tractive force of 212 kN and the option of a wide undercarriage (2.7 m) for greater stability, allows for safe and comfortable operation on steep terrain.

Power and Intelligent Control:
Under the hood, a 6-cylinder John Deere 6068 engine delivers 163 kW (219 hp), powering a Load Sensing hydraulic system with a flow of 399 l/min. This flow capacity ensures rapid stem feeding. Additionally, the machine is ready for Smart Tip Handling (STH) and xCrane control, facilitating smooth, precise, and less fatiguing crane operation for the operator.

Head Compatibility
As a universal machine, the 204HVT is optimized for medium-to-large heads that offer speed in thinning and power in final felling:

  • AFM Forest: AFM 55 (The ideal match for this class).
  • Logmax: 5000D.
  • Waratah: H424, H423.
  • Ponsse: H6, H7 (light versions).
  • SP Maskiner: 561 LF, 661 LF.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1. For which type of contractor is the 204HVT ideal? It is the perfect machine for the “flexible” contractor who might be doing Radiata pine thinning one week and Eucalyptus or medium Pine final felling the next. Not limited by excessive size (like the 243) nor by a lack of power (like the 103), it offers the best ROI for mixed fleets.

2. What is the difference between the two available chassis widths?
You can order it with a 2.50 m track width for easier transport and working in narrow thinning lanes, or with a 2.70 m width that provides extra stability and greater ground clearance (590 mm vs 490 mm), ideal if you work frequently in final felling or on very broken ground.

3. Is the hydraulic flow sufficient for processing hardwood?
Yes, its 399 l/min is very generous for a 20-tonne machine. This allows heads like the AFM 55 or Logmax 5000D to run at maximum feed capacity, ensuring clean delimbing even on difficult branches.

4. What is the crane reach?
It offers two parallel crane options: the CH610 with a 10.2-meter reach (ideal for heavier heads and stability) or the CH613 with 11.5 meters (ideal for maximizing reach in thinning and minimizing machine movement).

5. How does the cabin design facilitate maintenance?
Access is total. Both the cabin and the service platform tilt hydraulically, leaving the engine and pumps completely exposed at an ergonomic working height. No contortionism is needed to change a filter or check a hose.
