Disc feller head – FPM TRIM 380

Speed and efficiency in continuous felling.
The TRIM 380 is a continuous rotation disc feller head designed for maximum productivity in biomass harvesting and forest clearing. With a robust weight of 1,500 kg and a cutting capacity of up to 350 mm, this tool converts inertia into performance, allowing for an uninterrupted workflow under the most demanding conditions.

Large description

Engineering:
Built for the forest High Inertia and Robust Design: Under the “Exclusive Forestry Design” seal, the TRIM 380 is built to withstand harsh treatment. Its 1,500 kg structure protects vital hydraulic components, offering superior durability against dense undergrowth and branches. Unlike conventional shears, its continuous rotation disc system harnesses kinetic energy, reducing stress on the base machine during the cut.

Performance and Cutting Speed
This head is a powerhouse of efficiency. It requires a moderate hydraulic flow of 120-130 l/min, making it compatible with a wide range of medium excavators (such as the EC160 series). Its rotation capacity of +/- 200-300° grants excellent maneuverability to reach trees in difficult positions without having to reposition the base machine’s tracks.

Cut Quality and Finish
The TRIM 380 does not just fell; it manages the terrain. It allows a maximum cutting height from the ground of just 75 mm, guaranteeing low stumps that facilitate the subsequent passage of machinery. It is capable of processing everything from fine brush of 50 mm to consolidated logs of 350 mm, offering a clean disc cut that favors regrowth or sealing depending on forestry management needs.

Fleet Compatibility
The TRIM 380 is the ideal add-on for forestry excavators and processors looking to diversify into biomass and land clearing.

Recommended Base Machines:

  • Excavators from 16 to 24 tons (e.g., Volvo EC160, FPM TR 160).
  • Compatible with bases equipped with a hammer line or auxiliary flow.

Hydraulic Requirements:

  • Oil Flow: 120 – 130 l/min.
  • Working Pressure: 230 – 250 bar.

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

1. What is the advantage of the continuous rotation disc over a shear? The main advantage is speed. The disc builds up inertia, allowing for the continuous cutting of multiple small stems or medium trees without stopping to “bite” like a shear, which skyrockets productivity in biomass operations.

2. What is the actual maximum cutting capacity?
The TRIM 380 is certified to cut logs up to 350 mm in diameter and equivalent circumferences, being effective from 50 mm upwards.

3. What maintenance does the disc require?
The disc system is robust and has fewer exposed moving parts than a chainsaw bar. Maintenance focuses on the disc teeth (which are usually rotatable or replaceable) and general greasing of the rotation unit (+/- 200-300°).

4. Do I need a very large excavator to move it?
With a weight of 1,500 kg, a base machine of at least 16-18 tons (like the Volvo EC160) is recommended to work with stability and safety at maximum extension.

5. Can it leave flush stumps?
Yes, its design allows the disc to get close to the ground, achieving a cutting height of 75 mm, ideal for leaving the terrain clean.
