Horizontal Grinder – Peterson 6700D

The Peterson 6700D is the largest horizontal grinder in the Peterson lineup, specifically engineered for large-scale operations that demand the ultimate in durability and the highest production output on the market. With a massive operating weight of 44,452 kg and a colossal 1,125 hp Caterpillar C32 engine, this powerhouse effortlessly processes everything from green waste to massive stumps that used to be reserved exclusively for tub grinders. Its towable tri-axle configuration ensures excellent mobility for forest contractors and biomass plants needing frequent moves between jobsites.

Large description

Engineering and Design Built for the Forest

The Peterson 6700D represents the pinnacle of mechanical robustness in biomass management and industrial grinding. The chassis is built upon a solid towable tri-axle platform designed to absorb the most severe impacts of processing large volumes of heavy wood. In its transport configuration, it features a travel length of 1,562 cm and a travel width of 338 cm. It comes standard with system pressure transducers and remote monitoring capabilities that significantly simplify setup , providing total control over engine and system parameters to ensure prolonged mechanical availability and maximum profitability in the field.

Superior Feed System and Performance

Powered by a Caterpillar C32 engine block delivering 1,125 hp (839 kW) and managed via a PT Tech HPTO 15FX clutch , this grinder features a massive hopper with an 8.4 m³ capacity and a length of 533 cm. The feed system relies on a powerful 5-section feed chain that spans the full width of the hopper. Its impressive standard feed opening of 168 x 127 cm can expand up to 168 x 165 cm in its dedicated land clearing mode , allowing the 107 cm diameter upper compression roll to grab, crush, and feed bulky material without interruption or clogging.

High-Efficiency Grinding and Sizing Quality

The reduction core relies on a heavy-duty rotor measuring 176 cm in width and 118 cm in diameter, driven at a constant speed of 840 rpm. It supports configurations of 22 bits for a drum rotor or 20 bits for a pinned rotor , utilizing replaceable 3 x 6.5-inch cutting tools. Granulometric control is managed by 4 independent grate sections with a total screening area of 33,890 cm², a thickness of 38 mm, and an angular coverage of 186°. All output is efficiently evacuated by a 152 cm wide discharge conveyor that reaches stockpiling heights of 451 cm with belt speeds up to 213 m/min.

Fleet Compatibility and Mobility

Unlike tracked variants, the Peterson 6700D is designed as a highly agile wheeled towable unit for long-distance transport.

  • Heavy Towing Chassis: The weight is efficiently distributed with 25,773 kg over the rear tri-axle , coupling to truck tractors via a standard fifth wheel with a hitch height of 127 cm.
  • Intelligent Control: Features the Peterson Adaptive Control System and radio remote control, optimizing feeding in parallel with other machinery.
  • Operational Synchronization: It is the ideal complement for continuous operation in large fixed woodyards or temporary biomass yards, fed by high-tonnage forest excavators or high-flow forwarder cranes.

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

1- What is the maximum production capacity of the Peterson 6700D? It is capable of achieving massive outputs of up to 446 m³ (154 metric tonnes) per hour in green waste. When processing scrap board or sawmill waste, the volume increases up to 499 m³ (101 tonnes) per hour , with production rates calculated based on grinding 50 minutes per hour.

2- Can it process large whole stumps? Yes, thanks to its generous 168 x 127 cm feed opening and its extreme 1,125 hp output, the Peterson 6700D can process large wood stumps that historically were reserved exclusively for tub grinders.

3- What intelligent systems does it incorporate to optimize forestry output? It features the Peterson Adaptive Control System , system pressure transducers that monitor system stress in real time, and the Peterson+ Analytics digital platform for preventive monitoring of engine and maintenance parameters.

4- What engine and emissions options are available for this model? It comes standard with the Tier IV certified Caterpillar C32 engine delivering 1,125 hp (839 kW) for regulated markets. Additionally, a Tier II Caterpillar C32 version of the same power is available exclusively for export.

5- What optional equipment is available to optimize the final product?

Machine performance can be enhanced by installing a crossbelt magnet , a scrap metal collection box , a magnetic head pulley , a cold weather kit , LED work lights , and an integrated air compressor.
