Harvester Head – AFM 60

The Specialist in Eucalyptus and Roadside Processing
The AFM 60 is a 1,500 kg harvesting head designed for maximum productivity in final felling (clearcutting) and roadside processing operations. Its robust structure and specific geometry make it a leading tool for eucalyptus debarking, being the preferred choice for mounting on 16 to 25-ton excavators. It combines extremely high feeding speed (6 m/s) with the necessary power to handle heavy stems.

Large description

Engineering and Design: Built for high production This head has been developed with durability in mind. Its reinforced frame protects all vital components, enabling work in demanding conditions such as intensive debarking. Unlike lighter models, the AFM 60 offers superior stability when manipulating large trees (max. felling diameter 750 mm), making it ideal for both felling in the forest and processing log piles at the landing or roadside.

Feeding and Performance:
Record-breaking speed The heart of the AFM 60 is its powerful 4-motor, 3-roller feeding unit. This configuration not only ensures total traction (25 kN force) but reaches a speed of 6 meters per second, outperforming many competitors in its class. This speed is critical for profitability in eucalyptus and pine processing, where volume per hour makes the difference.

Eucalyptus Debarking Specialization:
The AFM 60 stands out for its specific operational capability for eucalyptus debarking. The combination of aggressive rollers and adjustable knife pressure (3-4 units) allows for stripping difficult bark without damaging the valuable fiber, optimizing pulpwood production.

Fleet Compatibility

A “Heavy Duty” head for medium-large machines:

Excavators: 16 – 25 Tons (The most popular configuration in Spain).
Wheeled Harvesters: 16 – 25 Tons.
Tracked Harvesters: Compatible and recommended.
Hydraulic Requirements: Minimum flow of 250 l/min and minimum engine power of 80 kW.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1. Why is it special for Eucalyptus?
The AFM 60 has been designed with the specific geometry and power for eucalyptus debarking. Its rollers and knives work in sync to separate bark (which is often hard or fibrous) at high speed, something standard heads cannot achieve efficiently.

2. What working speed does it reach?
It is one of the fastest in its category, reaching 6 m/s. This means much shorter delimbing cycles and higher daily tonnage production, vital for contractors paid by volume.

3. Is it suitable for roadside processing?
Yes, this is one of its main functions. Thanks to its weight and stability, it can grab whole trees skidded to the landing and quickly process them into neat piles at the roadside.

4. How many delimbing knives does it have?
It features a configuration of 3-4 knives. This layout is optimized to allow fast stem throughput and facilitate debarking, reducing unnecessary friction without losing cleaning quality.

5. What excavator do I need?
You need a solid base. The ideal range is 20 to 25-ton excavators. With a self-weight of 1,500 kg, the head requires a machine with good counterweight and lifting capacity to work safely at maximum reach.
