Harvester Head – AFM 35

Compact power for thinning and biomass operations
The AFM 35 is a powerful and versatile harvesting head, engineered specifically for thinning operations and energy wood harvesting. With an operating weight of just 720 kg, it delivers a remarkable feeding force of 18 kN, making it the ideal tool for small excavators (8-14 tons) and light wheeled harvesters. It ensures profitability in dense forest stands without compromising agility or maneuverability.

Large description

Engineering and Design: Lightweight durability for the forest The AFM 35 is built with a reinforced steel frame designed to shield vital hydraulic components, significantly reducing downtime caused by breakdowns in rough terrain. Its short, compact design offers exceptional maneuverability between standing timber, making it perfect for first and second thinnings. Furthermore, its geometry facilitates direct loading onto forwarders or the creation of clean piles, optimizing logistics right from the first cut.

Feeding and Performance:
Speed in small timber Equipped with a 2-motor, 2-roller drive system, this head ensures a firm grip and a feed speed of up to 5.5 m/s. This configuration is ideal for rapidly processing small to medium-diameter softwoods and hardwoods (optimal range 5-30 cm). It can optionally be equipped with an accumulating handling arm cassette, transforming it into a lethal tool for efficient biomass and energy wood harvesting.

Log Quality and Delimbing:
High-quality delimbing is guaranteed by 5 movable knives (one floating front knife, two upper, and two lower knives) that perfectly embrace the stem. Thanks to precise diameter and length measurement (compatible with the most common control systems), the AFM 35 maximizes the value of every log, even on heavy-branched trees or irregular stems. Its 580 mm knife opening capacity allows it to handle butts thicker than usual for its class.

Fleet Compatibility. This head is designed to maximize your investment in compact base machinery.

  • Excavators: 8 – 14 tons.
  • Wheeled Harvesters: 8 – 16 tons.
  • Combi Machines: Adaptable for harvester-forwarder combinations.
  • Hydraulic Requirements: Minimum flow of 120-200 l/min and optimal pressure to unleash its power (min. 60 kW engine).

Frequently Asked Questions about the AFM 35

1. What type of work is the AFM 35 ideal for? It is the king of thinning operations and biomass harvesting. Its design shines in dense plantations where maneuvering without damaging standing trees is crucial, making it perfect for young pine or medium-diameter eucalyptus stands.

2. Can I install it on a 10-ton excavator?
Yes, that is the perfect range. The AFM 35 is optimized for excavators from 8 to 14 tons. We just need to verify that your hydraulic pump delivers the necessary flow (minimum 120 l/min) for fluid operation.

3. Is it suitable for energy wood or biomass?
Absolutely. The head can be equipped with multi-stemming accumulating arms, allowing you to cut and hold several small stems at once before processing, multiplying productivity in coppice or dense stands.

4. What maintenance does this head require?
Like the entire AFM range, it is designed with a “forest-proof” engineering philosophy. Grease points are accessible, and hoses are protected yet easy to replace. Chain tensioning is automatic, reducing daily downtime.

5. Is it compatible with modern measuring systems?
Yes, the AFM 35 can integrate with the most common measuring and control systems on the market (such as Motomit, Technion, etc.), allowing for volume control and production data transfer.
